For my project, my client is my father Charlie Bhudasuwan who is the owner of a successful restaurant in Raleigh called Lemongrass Thai Restaurant. The restaurant has been open for fourteen years now and I basically grew up with this restaurant. What I plan to do for the restaurant and for my father as a businessman is to primarily redesign the website (web design) and then redesign the menu. I am interested into doing this project for the restaurant because again, I grew up with this restaurant and currently work there. It’s a family business, all the employees and customers know each other well, and I connect with the restaurant to a personal level so I want to make it the best it can be. On the business and design standpoint, both my father and I agree that the website primarily is very outdated. The formatting of the website is not-so-neat and the navigation is not as clean and professional as I would like it to be. The flow of the website when scrolling up and down on each page is not very smooth. That is why the website for my project will be the focus. To complete this project, I would need to know the skills for web design to make the web site and skills in graphics to make the website visually appealing and organized. I will need to use the softwares Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign for the graphics on the website and Dreamweaver, potentially CMSimple (which is what the website is on now), or another software that I can get access to to create the website. InDesign will also be used to recreate the menu. We planned for this project to be completed around the start of May. My father and I will meet every two weeks to go over what I have done and he will provide feedback which I will follow until the next conference. This along with a schedule will help me get the project completed on time. However, I believe that I will have to overcome the obstacles of other school work and the possible limited access to the software if it is at school and I am at home. Time management and good planning will hopefully help me overcome these obstacles.
Notes
Have the website be easy to read and easy to navigate.
Try to keep a similar color scheme to the old website.
Provide the most amount of info in the simplest way on the website.
Make the website nice, neat, and organized.
Have the menu also be nice, neat, and organized.
Organize the sections of the menu together well.
Still have the font of the menu be large enough for all to read.
Fix the info details on the About page of the website.
Don't change the numbers of the menu items for the customers with the to-go menus
Present the photos of the gallery in a condensed way instead of a long line of pictures.
